Jack is a young South Devon photographer and videographer, who loves the coastal landscapes of Devon and Cornwall and posts beautiful photos and videos alongside some stunning drone footage of the coastlines and Dartmoor national park. Today were catching up with Jack to learn more about him, what inspires his passion and his favourite places to explore in the South West.
Hey Jack, tell us a bit more about you and what you do?
Hi, my name is Jack I'm 18 years old and i love to travel around the county finding interesting landscapes for photography and videography. Alongside being creative with cameras and editing, I enjoy longboarding, exercising and driving on the coast.
How did you develop your passion for photography?
I have been into photography and making videos since I was a kid. But the main passion came from always being by the coast and wanting keep memories from my days out so i was always taking photos.
What inspires you to take photos and videos and develop your style in a certain way?
I take a lot of inspiration from any of my previous photos. I am always try to find a new way to get better angles or new perspectives from my own photos.
What is your favourite South West area for inspiration?
My favourite place in the South West is Newquay. I Love the skate and surf vibe, the beachy atmosphere and the sunsets there are amazing.
What is your usual set up and go to equipment?
I use a Fujifilm XT-10 with a wide angle lens and a zoom lens and a DJI mini 2 for my drone shots . I have a couple other cameras that come into use every now and then but the Fujifilm is my favourite. I will rarely find myself using equipment such as tripods unless i use it for filming a specific scene.
How do you get into your editing zone?
For me my editing zone really depends on how how happy I am with the footage I have got. If I'm not too happy with it, then it takes much longer to create an edit, or I wont even use the footage at all. However, when I get footage that I am really happy with I am so excited to get home and get straight into editing.
What is your favourite piece of work you have created and why?
My favourite piece of work would have to be my final edit of 2020 drone clips. I just love the perspectives I was able to capture and I was so happy with the edit.
Where do you see your work progressing? Is there an end goal?
I just want to continue creating and having fun taking photos and building my brand. In the future I aim to create my own business for with my photography and videography.
Any advice, hints or tips for people starting out?
My only advice would be to just have fun!!
